Tutors / Relief Tutors / Volunteers In Music

Saturday Music Charitable Trust (PN) based in Palmerston North provides music education for children ages 4 - 13 years (primary school). Classes operate during the school term between March and November each year.

We seek new tutors and relief tutors to join our motivated and friendly team for 2023. We require:

  1. Tutors / relief tutors (for all instruments, especially drums, guitar, brass, woodwind and Music Basics). We are especially seeking tutors for French Horn, Trombone, and our Music Basics programme which is specifically targeted for kids aged 4-6. More information on our classes can be found here.
  2. Conductors for ensembles: Manawatū Training Orchestra, and Manawatū Voices Choir also welcomed. Information about these two ensembles can be found here.
  3. Volunteers in music - assisting with logistics, teacher assistance, admin support. Ideal for high school students with interest in a future career in music and looking for opportunities to contribute to the community.

All applicants must have a passion and patience for teaching children, effective communication skills with students and parents, an interest in growing your teaching and management skills, and a commitment to sustaining a consistent music education programme throughout the year.

Pop (keyboard, drums, guitar) and classical (all) music styles are taught, as well as an interactive Music Basics programme for 4-6 year olds. Up to six consecutive 30 minute sessions are taught on a Saturday morning during the school term time.

Experienced musicians preferred. Applicants must be 17 years or over. Professional development provided. Appointments and tuition hours dependent on student enrolments.
